The Federal Communications Commission has rejected the request by Cyren Call for to set aside a nationwide, wireless, broadband network for public safety that the company would manage.
Cyren Call, backed with $4 million from Battery Ventures, Columbia Capital, NEA and Oak Investment, had wanted to use 30 Mz band of the 700 Mz spectrum
It will now appeal to Congress for action.

The real problem here is that the Defense Department, Justice Deparment (FBI) and other federal agencies don’t want to give up any of the spectrum assigned to them, even if they’re not using it at the moment. Remember how hard it was for Lojack to get permanent spectrum? That required some Congressional intervention as well…
